MOON is the result of three people's passion for design. Three people on a mission to offer a trend-setting and total lifestyle package. Not only design furniture, therefore, but also objects for daily use that radiate sensuality, futurism, mysticism, visual perception and good feelings.
The mission begins in the autumn of 2005 with a design by designer Gerd Couckhuyt.
The Paris architects' agency MCM design, known for establishments such as Buddhabar, Manray and Barfly, places an order with him for its bar stools. These consist of a stainless steel frame and a cushion with coating. A coating which in the past occasionally refused to work.
Gerd meets coating expert Philip Meurisse, who has just developed a coating that stands out from all others in terms of resistance and watertightness. The bar stools are optimised and win over all of Paris.
For the dynamic duo, this success is the incentive they need to market the bar stool. Gerd designs around six other objects that form a strong unified whole, and the first collection is a fact.
The company Moon is ready to go. Cinthy Couckhuyt takes charge of financial matters. This paint and finishing lab technician with a thorough knowledge of management was the missing link in the ambitious team.
With Moon, the three decide not only to offer attractive, high quality design, they also seek to innovate in design and the use of materials. The furniture must be versatile and all pieces must be able to be used both inside and outside.
And yet driving forces Gerd and Philip are not yet entirely satisfied. They are still looking for something to distinguish their collections from all the others. They see the light, literally and figuratively: luminous furniture is their idea to give Moon that little bit extra.
Philip goes in search of a luminous coating and after an intensive test phase returns with a world first: a phosphorescent coating. The joint dream has now come true. Resistance tests were also carried out on the coating with salt mist to back up its quality with an official certificate.
To launch their dream on the market, Moon calls in Duval-Guillaume Antwerp, one of the best renowned advertising agencies in the world. Together they create a look which fits perfectly into the mentality of what Moon looks to send out in the future: a total package, bathing in a futuristic look.
